Itinerary
DAY 1: ARRIVE GRAND JUNCTION, CO
Upon arrival in Grand Junction meet your Tour Director and transfer to your hotel. The ‘River City’ extends a warm welcome as your gateway to an in-depth encounter to explore three wonderful National Parks. Enjoy a Welcome Dinner this evening and get acquainted with your fellow travelers.
DAY 2: GRAND JUNCTION – MOAB, UT
Depart Grand Junction for Moab, Utah, and begin your journey with a spectacular display of sheer cliffs and monolith rock formations at the Colorado National
Monument. These unique, rugged landscapes are nearly two billion years old – almost half the age of the earth. Later visit Colorado’s fertile and burgeoning wine
country for a Wine Tasting Experience at a local winery. Then travel on Scenic Byway 128, a spectacular route along the Colorado River providing breathtaking views of the surrounding red sandstone cliffs including the iconic red rock spires of the Fisher Towers set against the often snow-covered peaks of the La Sal Mountains. Later arrive in scenic Moab to check into your hotel and unpack for a three-night stay.
DAY 3: ARCHES NATIONAL PARK
This morning tour Arches National Park, one of our country’s great national parks which features the largest concentration of natural stone arches in the world with over 2,000 arches. Also see hundreds of other impressive red rock formations & canyons, and learn about the Native Americans who lived in this region for thousands of years. The late afternoon & evening are free to relax and explore Moab on your own.
DAY 4: MONUMENT VALLEY
Today embark on an adventure to Monument Valley. Enter the Monument Valley Navajo Tribal area offering vistas of stunning rock formations. Enjoy an
included lunch at Goulding’s Lodge and visit Goulding’s Museum & Trading Post to see a collection of Native American artifacts and movie memorabilia from some of John Wayne’s Western movies filmed in the area. Later enjoy a Monument Valley Scenic Drive Tour with a Navajo guide aboard a 4-wheel vehicle. Explore the areas oddly shaped monoliths, buttes and mesas of red sandstone. See why this area was the setting for many of John Ford’s memorable films. Return early evening to Moab.
DAY 5: CANYONLANDS NATIONAL PARK – DEAD HORSE POINT STATE PARK – BOARD TRAIN – GLENWOOD SPRINGS
Today visit Canyonlands National Park featuring deeply eroded canyons interspersed with sheer-sided mesas and a variety of spires, arches and unusual rock formations. A stop is made at Dead Horse Point State Park, towering high above the Colorado River offering breathtaking views of canyon country and the snaking Colorado River. This afternoon board the newest Rocky Mountaineer Train experience and travel eastward from Moab to Denver over the next 2 days in the SilverLeaf service level. Travel along the Colorado River taking in red rock formations, the cliffs of Ruby Canyon and stunning mountain scenery. Dinner is onboard before you arrive in the resort town of Glenwood Springs for your hotel overnight.
DAY 6: GLENWOOD SPRINGS – DENVER
This morning board your Rocky Mountaineer Train to continue your rail experience. Enjoy spectacular views onboard of lakes and raging rivers of Arapahoe National Forest, and snow-capped mountains. Cross the Continental Divide and the pass through Moffatt Tunnel. Lunch is onboard and later arrive in the vibrant
Mile-High City of Denver for a two-night stay.
DAY 7: SEDONA – ROCKY MOUNTAIN NATIONAL PARK
Today travel north of Denver to visit beautiful Rocky Mountain National Park famous for soaring peaks, wild rivers, alpine lakes and an amazing array of flora & fauna. Park wildlife includes bighorn sheep, deer, mountain lion, bobcat, black bear, elk, moose and a variety of birds. Travel along Trail Ridge Road & stop at the Visitor Center. Later return to Denver and enjoy a Farewell Dinner at a popular local restaurant.
DAY 6: DENVER – FLIGHT HOME
Fly home with wonderful memories of your travel experience.
